GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS PROGRAMS

 

Guidelines for Building Grants

The Building Grant program seeks to support K-12 instruction by funding curricula and programs that help meet the educational needs of students in the Shoreline School District.  This grant provides each of our K-12 schools with a sum of money determined by the population of each site for the purpose of funding programs, no longer being funded by the district.

Funding

  • Principals are notified of their funded amount in JUNE (the budgeted total award is calculating a per student cost x per school population)
  • Funds are available from JULY 1 of each year and may be used for student programs, assemblies, educational supplies or equipment, speakers, staff training and student transportation to/from school activities

Guidelines for Classroom Grants

Our goal is to fund innovative curricula and school projects that enhance educational opportunities for all K-12 students in the Shoreline School District.  All K-12 sites are eligible to apply.  Student and parent participation in the creation and implementation of the grant is encouraged.  Applications are available in SEPTEMBER and awards are announced in DECEMBER.

 

Funding – Project must include one or more of the following:

  • Budget has been set at $30,000 and individual grant awards will not exceed $2,000
  • Must impact a significant number of students
  • Demonstrates integration of curriculum
  • Promotes racial and/or cultural understanding
  • Applies learning life skills
  • Involves the use of technology
  • Strengthens the relationship between school & community
  • Addresses an “at-risk” population

 

What the grant review committee looks for

  • A detailed realistic project budget
  • Project actively involves students
  • Demonstrates a high student-per-dollar-investment ratio
  • Funding is beyond the financial capabilities of the district
  • Materials in the project are re-usable books, software and other purchased items are an integral part of the project

 

Guidelines for Community-Wide Grants

Support is provided to the community and school district events, projects, and programs that benefit the Shoreline School District as a whole.  Applications are available in SEPTEMBER and the request deadline is FEBRUARY 1.  Summary of activities due from each grant recipient thirty (30) days after event or completion of the project. 

No individual grant award exceeds $1,000

 

Guidelines for Educator Enrichment Scholarships

Support is provided to Shoreline District educators to assist in professional development.  Scholarships are offered in partnership with the Shoreline PTA Council.  (click here fore the Shoreline PTA Council website)

 

Guidelines for Opportunity Grants

Each K-12 school is given an “emergency fund” to help supplement the cost of schools supplies, field trips, class fees, and health checks for students in need.  Sites receive $200, $400, $600 or $1,000 according to their population in SEPTEMBER.

 

Funding

  • A grant coordinator is appointed to oversee eligibility, disbursement and administrative procedures
  • Student in attendance in a Shoreline District school can use these funds if they have an established financial need that cannot be met by the student or their family
  • There must be a reasonable likelihood that the assistance will help the student realize his/her potential or encourage the student to remain in school
  • A report detailing usage of the funds must be submitted to the Shoreline Foundation office by the end of the school year

 

Guidelines for Secondary Enrichment Scholarships

Scholarships are available to all Shoreline School District students in grades 7 through 12.  Any teacher or administrator may nominate a student with financial need to any program that is an enrichment opportunity i.e., art, music, drama, athletics, leadership, writing workshops or camps etc…It must relate directly to any part of the Shoreline School District secondary school program.

 

Funding

  • Nominating teacher or administrator must first contact the Foundation office
  • Scholarships are for students who find themselves in a difficult/unique financial situation
  • Requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
  • Once accepted for consideration, we may require a one page informational sheet to be filled out by the student and signed by the parent/guardian
  • When applicable, the Foundation may contact the parent/guardian for more information
  • Full or partial scholarships will not exceed $300 per applicant
  • Scholarships are available from JULY 1, 2009 through          JUNE 1, 2010
  • Student must submit an evaluation letter regarding their experience

 

 

Summer School Funding

Applications are available to the Shoreline School District in MAY of each year to support students who would benefit from learning opportunities in the summer but lack the financial resources to enroll in Summer School. The funds are used for full or partial summer school scholarships, and to support tuition and/or transportation costs.  Applications are due in MAY.
